2017 has been a great summer for butterflies
Here’s a photo of a gorgeous Peacock in the garden. Peacocks are common enough, but this year they are swarming in our garden!
This is good news. Peacocks are a good indicator of the health of butterfly communities. They are long-lived (they live for as much as a year) which means if you see one in the spring it has survived its winter hibernation successfully, or if you see one in the summer it is either a new brood or an older butterfly from last year that has survived the summer because food is available and the weather has been good.
