Dinner for two?

I like to leave some apples under the tree for nature to enjoy. Blackbirds and thrushes enjoy a rotting apple, and so does my dog! But yesterday in the autumn sunshine it was the butterflies that were making the most of it. And hundreds of Green Bottle flies too.

It’s nearly the middle of October and Summer is still lingering.

The weather is mild, there are flowers in the hedgerows and we’ve still got dozens of House Martins flying overhead. And this afternoon, a Red Admiral and a Comma danced around the garden… Haven’t they heard? Summer’s over…
